London Centre for Book Arts

Simon Goode and Ira Yonemura opened London Centre for Book Arts (LCBA) in 2012. With the resurgence of interest in all things craft and bespoke, it’s easy to say it would be an inevitable success but ten years ago life looked different. Firstly, no-one in the UK had done this before and secondly, there was a real feeling that books could finally be dead with the success of e-readers.

Having invested the effort and vision, what have Simon and Ira developed? The small-minded rivet-counter in me always loves a tidy works, and LCBA looks perfectly equipped and more importantly allows users space to work and the chance to find what they need.

Secondly, the centre is open to all. If you have any interest at all in making books, printing or even more modern reproduction, the studio has something for you. Workshops are available via. the shop which also sells the best kits to get started in bookbinding. Oh, and the brilliant guide Making Books by Simon and Ira.

LCBA is based in Hackney, a once-heavily industrial part of East London and now home to this phenomenal centre. Ira and Simon celebrate ten years of LCBA in October 2022, may they have every success in the coming years.
